The Lehman College men’s soccer squad suffered a tough 1-0 defeat to CUNY Athletic Conference rival Hunter College on the South Field on Saturday afternoon. In a physical game, Hunter scored the lone goal in the game’s 59th minute.
The first half was marked by aggressive play, with both teams having chances. Perhaps the best chance came late in the session, when Hunter’s Michael Ziegler hit the crossbar.
Early in the second half, Hunter had back-to-back corner kicks, and managed a goal on the second opportunity. Ziegler took the set piece from the left of Lehman keeper Marcos Coto-Batres (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Rye Neck), and sent the ball into the box, where Ioannis Theotakis headed the ball inside the near post. Later in the half, Lehman pressed, hitting the crossbar as well, but to no avail.
On the game, Lehman out-shot Hunter 9-8, but only three of Lehman’s shots were on target.
Lehman is now 1-7-1 on the season, and 0-1 inside the CUNYAC. Hunter advances to 1-6-1 on the year, and 1-0-1 in the CUNYAC.
Lehman returns to action on Wednesday, hosting CUNYAC foe York College at 7:00 p.m.
