On Monday, Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. joined elected officials from across New York and New Jersey hosted by Univision 41 News and the Hispanic Federation, to discuss the importance of Hispanic participation in the upcoming 2020 Census.

Moderated by the Univision 41 presenter Adriana Vargas, the forum emphasized the importance of the information gathered by the 2020 Census, which will determine governmental representation as far as redistricting, but also the distribution of $675 billion in federal and state funds.

“Historically, our communities have been chronically undercounted and therefore, acutely underserved,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. “In the Bronx, we have had a history of having to do more with less for our more than 1.4 million residents, which is why we are putting best efforts to let our community know about the importance of Census participation, especially amongst undocumented population.”
