The Bronx Arts Ensemble will present Handel’s Sweet Aperitifs for the second weekend of the free “SummerMusic 2009” concert series on Sunday, July 19, featuring Handel’s Concerto in G Minor for Oboe, Strings and Continuo; Cantata: Mi palpita il cor for Soprano, Oboe and Continuo; Concerto for Harpsichord and Ensemble, Opus 4, No. 1 and Two Arias from “Apollo e Dafne”.
Concerts are scheduled for 2 pm at Rockwood Drive Circle, Van Cortlandt Park, near Broadway and Mosholu Avenue in Riverdale and repeated at 4 pm in the McGinley Center Ballroom at Fordham University, on the Bronx Rose Hill Campus at Southern Boulevard. Handel’s Sweet Aperitifs features harpsichordist Edward Brewer.
An active performer in the New York area for more than 35 years, harpsichordist EDWARD BREWER performs regularly in the city’s concert halls. His affiliations include Amor Artis, The Oratorio Society of New York, The Bronx Arts Ensemble, the Fairfield Chorale, and the Discovery Orchestra. He performed for many seasons in Westchester with Philharmonia Virtuosi, and he was founding music director of the Soclair Music Festival in New Jersey, which recently completed its 30th season.
As a recording artist Mr. Brewer has over 30 recordings to his credit, In case of rain, the first concert will be moved to Vladeck Hall in the Amalgamated Houses at Hillman Avenue and Van Cortlandt Park South. Seating is provided in Van Cortlandt Park but the audience is urged to bring folding chairs if possible.
The third weekend of SummerMusic 2009 on Sunday, July 26th will feature A CALLIOPE OF SOUNDS FROM THE WINDS IN THE WOODS, a Collection of Marches, Waltzes, Water Music and Polkas.
