More than a hundred tenants in a Bronx apartment building, many of whom are Latino, have had to heat their homes by keeping the oven on or putting on the kettle.
According to tenants of the 2427 Webster Avenue building, they have not had hot water nor heating for seven months and have been staging protests against Milbank Real Estate, which is responsible for the building.
In attempt to stay warm in the freezing weather, several tenants have almost caused fires by leaving on their stoves. In addition, many elder tenants and children have had to go to the hospital as a result of health issues created by heatless homes.
