The number of children in need of foster parents this summer at unprecedented levels according to the Foster Care Network.

While most of the area will be preparing itself for exciting family vacations, a number of New York City’s foster children will be spending this summer alone.

The Foster Care Network, the state’s leader in recruiting area foster parents for special needs children, is urging the citizens of New York to find out how easy it is to become a foster parent to one of the thousands of abused and neglected children needing foster families this summer.

“Our need for foster parents takes on new meaning in the summer months,” says David Schild, President for The Foster Care Network “This is supposed to be the time of year when families spend the most time together, making the need for foster parents more crucial than ever.”

While the predominant need in foster care is for homes that can care for special needs children, The Foster Care Network is also looking for parents who can take care of sibling groups and teens.

“Truth is, we need families to consider becoming foster parents today,” says Schild. “We encourage all of them to call us and get more information.”

Prospective foster parents can open their homes this summer by calling The Foster Care Network toll-free at 1-800-454-3727. In addition to free training sessions at their convenience, foster parents receive monthly financial assistance for the living and medical expenses of each foster child in their care.
