A man who allegedly tried to defraud a local bank with forged documents in January was charged with multiple felonies on Wednesday, September 04, 2019, Greenwich police said.

Elijah Wellington, 22, of Carpenter Avenue, Bronx, NY, was extradited from New York to Greenwich, CT to face charges of forgery, criminal attempt at larceny, conspiracy and resisting arrest.

Police said Wellington was with two other men involved in an attempt to make a withdrawal from a Greenwich Avenue bank with forged documents on January 07, 2019.

Officers at the time were unable to determine with certainty whether Wellington had documents that were forged. When a subsequent investigation revealed they were fake, an arrest warrant was issued, police said. Some forgeries are so well produced it can take time to ascertain that they are fake, police said. Wellington was in the Westchester County (NY) Jail on another criminal charge, and he was picked up there for processing in Greenwich.

Bail was set at $50,000.
