A 79-year-old woman has died after a fire tore through a five-story building in the Bronx.

A fire official says that the woman was pronounced dead at Montefiore Medical Center on Sunday afternoon.

The city’s medical examiner is expected to determine the cause of her death.

The fire at the Bronx building on Decatur Avenue in the Norwood section of the Bronx was reported just before 2 p.m. Firefighters brought the blaze under control in less than an hour.

The fire was small and contained to one apartment. Fire officials are now trying to pinpoint the cause.
