Dequan Jackson, 29, Arrested For The Murder Of Benjamin Bernal, 58

On Sunday, August 4, 2024, at approximately 1700 hours, police responded to a 911 call of an assault in progress at 7 West Mosholu Parkway North, within the confines of the 52nd Precinct in the Bronx.

Upon arrival, police were informed that a 58-year-old male was punched in the head by another individual, causing him to fall to the floor.

EMS responded and transported the male to St. Barnabas Hospital.

On Saturday September 7, 2024, the 58-year-old male succumbed to his injuries.

Following proper family notification, the deceased has been identified as indicated.

The incident has now been deemed a homicide by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the following 29-year-old male individual was arrested and charged on August 4, 2024, at 1741 hours, within the confines of the 52nd Precinct.

Charges:

  • assault in the 3rd degree;
  • manslaughter in the 1st degree.

The investigation remains ongoing.
