On Thursday, August 12, 2021, at approximately 1719 hours, police responded to a 911 call of an unconscious male at Orchard Beach, within the confines of the 45th Precinct.
Upon arrival, officers encountered 7 people, 41-year-old male, 33-year-old female, 14-year-old male, 13-year-old male, 13-year-old female, 12-year-old female and 5-year-old male, who were struck by lightning on the beach.
EMS transported all 7 individuals to NYC Health + Hospitals / Jacobi, where the 13-year-old male was pronounced deceased.
The rest of the injured were list ed as being in stable condition..

There have been no arrests made and the investigation remains ongoing.
