Nearly 6,000 cyclists will ride through the borough’s 61 neighborhoods in the 18th annual Tour de Bronx Sunday, October 14, 2012.
New Yorkers of all ages are welcome to participate. Registration is open at tourdebronx.org.
“Riding a bike around the Bronx is the healthiest way to rediscover our beautiful borough and all it has to offer in a new way. I invite everyone to join me again this year to see the best of the Bronx,” Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. said.
The free cycling event is the largest in the state. It will have two courses, a 25-mile and a 40-mile for both casual and avid bikers.
The 25-mile course takes cyclists through bike paths, parks, and the shoreline at a leisurely pace. The 40-mile course will be covered in the same amount of time, and cyclists will travel as far as City Island. The path will include riding in traffic without safety cells, and children under 16 must be accompanied by a guardian.
Check-in begins at a 9:30 a.m. at the Bronx County Building at Grand Concourse and 161st Street and ends at the New York Botanical Garden with a music festival.
