Bronx River Art Center’s Fall 2009 semester of after-school arts classes begins on October 5th and will end with a holiday student exhibition and reception in our storefront gallery on December 18th.

Every weekday afternoon youth ages 9-18 can chose from a wide selection of visual or digital art media to enhance their academic studies with creative art skills building and challenging thought processes that help to prepare middle and high school youth for higher education. Fine art classes include painting& drawing, printmaking, cartooning, ceramics and sculpture. Digital media classes include videography, graphic design and digital photography.

Thanks to funding support from a combination of foundation, corporate and government entities that subsidize our programming BRAC is able to offer our classes at fees below regional market rates. At $75 for one class per week or $125 for two classes per week for a 10 week semester of creative exploration, our program is the most affordable professional art training around. BRAC also offers Saturday classes for adults, parent/child teams and children ages 6-8 years old. Adult classes are $125 for the 10 week series offering two media or $75 for half a series of five classes. Parent/child classes are $150 for one adult and up to two children under 11 years of age. There is also a special Saturday class for children 6-8 years old entitled “Cartooning for Kids” that introduces students to drawing from life as well as creation of cartoon characters.

BRAC’s wide ranging curriculum encompasses an interdisciplinary theme exploring environmental issues pertinent to our immediate surroundings as well as global concern such as energy conservation, the effects of pollution and preservation of natural resources. This is in keeping with BRAC’s long-term commitment, stemming from its inception as arts programming for the original Bronx River Restoration project of the 1970s. BRAC’s mission is to engage the Bronx community in the restoration and preservation of our borough’s unique natural resource, the Bronx River through creative arts activities.
