Earlier today, Friday, August 07, 2020, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. hosted an event to distribute food and personal protective equipment at River Park Towers at 55 Richman Plaza in the Bronx.

Borough President Diaz hosted the event with New York City Council Member Vanessa Gibson and New York State Assembly Member Latoya Joyner in partnership with Empire Bluecross Blueshield. They distributed thousands of pieces of personal protective equipment such as face masks and hand sanitizer.

Department of Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia and the Food Policy Team joined the event to give out boxes of fresh groceries to River Park Towers residents.

“CoViD-19 has affected so many families in The Bronx but thanks to our collective adherence to public health strategies like wearing masks, we have been able to “flatten the curve” and sustain lower infection rates,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. “Today we made it easier for hundreds of Bronxites to protect themselves by providing them with masks and other vital resources. Thank you to everyone who partnered with us today to organize this event and to protect our communities from CoViD-19.”

“For far too long, the residents at Riverpark Towers have been battling the novel Coronavirus with limited resources. Its location leaves them removed from many resources within the South Bronx. Thanks to the partnership between Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Assembly Member Latoya Joyner, Empire BlueCross BlueShield, and my office, these residents will receive the personal protective equipment such as face masks and hand sanitizers to overcome CoViD-19. We are also grateful to DSNY Commissioner Kathryn Garcia and the Food Policy Team for providing boxes of groceries as additional support. As a City, we will continue to stand by our residents, especially those in need,” said New York City Council Member Vanessa Gibson.

“Housing seniors and working families, River Park Towers is one of the backbones of my community and I am really pleased to welcome Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz. Jr. as we giveaway essential supplies and PPE during the ongoing CoViD-19 pandemic,” said Assemblywoman Latoya Joyner. “The protective equipment we are distributing will reduce the spread of this deadly virus and I appreciate those who are showing so much concern about the health and safety of my community.”

“At Empire BlueCross BlueShield, we are focused on our mission to measurably and materially improve the health of every New Yorker, and succeeding in this mission is more important now than ever before,” said Alan Murray, president & CEO of Empire BlueCross BlueShield’s commercial plan. “Many of our fellow New Yorkers need access to personal protective equipment like face masks and hand sanitizer to keep our communities safe as we tackle the CoViD-19 pandemic, and today, we are proud to partner with Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr., New York City Council Member Vanessa Gibson and New York State Assembly Member Latoya Joyner to provide these resources to our neighbors in the Bronx community.”

“Parts of the city may seem to be returning to normal, but the fact is, this crisis is far from over. I want to thank Borough President Diaz, Councilmember Gibson, and Assemblymember Joyner for recognizing that and giving us this opportunity to serve the people of the Bronx.” said New York City Department of Sanitation Commissioner and NYC CoViD-19 Food Czar Kathryn Garcia.
