Two Bronx men were arrested near the Tappan Zee Bridge toll booths after being accused of stealing 10 handbags valued at $2,300 from Lord & Taylor at the Palisades Center.
Brent Reid, 51, and Arthur Richardson, 50, were arrested Tuesday after 02:00 p.m. by a Clarkstown police officer, after bridge personnel slowed down traffic when told the police were looking for a specific car in a shoplifting incident, Sgt. Harry Baumann said Wednesday in a news release.
A security guard reported a man taking 10 Coach handbags and the display from the store without paying, Baumann said.
The man got into a vehicle standing in the no-parking zone and rode off, leading police to broadcast a description of the vehicle and the two men, Baumann said.
A Clarkstown officer stopped a car just west of the toll booths and arrested Reid, the driver, and Richardson. The officer also recovered the 10 handbags, Baumann said.
Both men were charged with felony counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
Reid and Richardson were arraigned and were ordered held on $25,000 bail each in the county jail pending a hearing Monday in Clarkstown Town Court.
