A detective from the Bronx was honored this morning by President Barack Obama in Washington for saving a man’s life by risking his own.
In December, NYPD Det. Ivan Marcano was out with his girlfriend and off-duty when he was shot in the chest while trying to stop a group of teens from robbing an elderly man. During the ceremony, which took place in the White House, where Marcano and other officers from around the country were presented with this year’s Top Cop Award, Obama singled out Marcano for apprehending suspects “while on his date night.”
NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly also praised Marcano for his “selfless devotion to duty.”
