Thousands of expectant and new parents across the Bronx are expected to attend a free baby expo on Friday, November 6, bringing together families, healthcare providers, and community organizations to provide essential resources, guidance, and support during pregnancy and early childhood.
Hosted by Brilla Public Charter Schools, the Bronx Baby Expo will offer families access to maternal and infant healthcare professionals, parenting resources, wellness guidance, and a wide range of free baby essentials.
The event is part of Brilla’s ongoing efforts to address maternal health disparities in the Bronx, where families continue to face significant challenges accessing prenatal care and maternal health services.
Addressing Maternal Health Disparities in the Bronx
According to the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Bronx has the highest maternal mortality rate of any borough in NYC. Additionally, fewer than 60% of pregnant women in the borough receive prenatal care during their first trimester, highlighting the need for greater access to early healthcare intervention and support.
The Bronx Baby Expo seeks to help address these challenges by connecting families directly with professionals and organizations that can provide information, assistance, and resources throughout pregnancy and the early stages of parenthood.
With approximately 5,000 new and expecting parents anticipated to attend, the event is expected to serve as a significant community gathering focused on maternal health, infant wellness, and family support.
Free Baby Essentials and Newborn Supplies
In addition to healthcare information and parenting guidance, families attending the expo will have the opportunity to receive a variety of complimentary baby and postpartum supplies, while supplies last.
Giveaways are expected to include:
- Diapers and baby wipes
- Baby bottles and newborn bundles
- Postpartum care kits
- Toys and children’s books
- Other essential baby supplies
The distribution of these items aims to help families manage some of the financial challenges associated with welcoming a newborn and caring for an infant.
Connecting Families With Healthcare and Community Resources
The expo will feature opportunities for parents to meet one-on-one with maternal and infant care providers, receive health and wellness guidance, and learn about programs and services available to support their families.
Community organizations and service providers will also be on-site to share information and offer assistance in areas ranging from maternal health and family wellness to childcare, financial services, and parenting support.
Participating organizations include The HopeLine, Giving Friends, Hero Dads, Montefiore Nurse-Family Partnership, Bronx Healthy Start, Primerica Financial Services, Engage Bronx, and the Day Care Council of New York.
Their participation will help families discover resources that may extend beyond the event, providing connections to ongoing programs and services throughout the community.
Supporting Bronx Families Through Parenthood
The Bronx Baby Expo reflects a broader effort to strengthen community-based support for expectant parents, newborns, and families with young children.
By bringing healthcare providers, nonprofit organizations, and essential resources together under one roof, Brilla Public Charter Schools aims to make critical information and support more accessible to Bronx families during one of life’s most important transitions.
With thousands of parents expected to attend, the event will highlight the importance of community partnerships in improving maternal health, supporting infant development, and helping families navigate the challenges of pregnancy and early childhood.
About Brilla Public Charter Schools
Brilla Public Charter Schools seeks to lead students in the South Bronx to grow in knowledge, virtue, and character, preparing them for middle school, high school, college, and beyond. Brilla Schools recently expanded its model beyond the classroom with the opening of a new Family Resource Center in the Bronx. The center is designed to connect families with critical support – from job training and parenting workshops to social services – reflecting a broader vision of schools as hubs for community stability and opportunity. As policymakers and educators grapple with how to address out-of-school factors that impact learning, Brilla’s approach highlights the growing role of schools in meeting the holistic needs of families.
