In the heart of New York City’s vibrant ballroom scene, where history merges with contemporary dynamism, the Haus of Silk stands as a beacon of creativity, talent, and community spirit. Since its inception in the early 20th century, ballroom culture has thrived as a crucial underground haven for LGBTQIA+ folks, especially Black and Latinx youth, seeking not just self-expression but a profound sense of belonging.

Pioneers like Crystal Labeija and Pepper Labeija, whose influence reverberates through the storied House of Labeija, are celebrated for shaping the essence of ballroom competition and camaraderie. Meanwhile, Dorian Corey, esteemed as a guardian of ballroom’s cultural heritage and wisdom, laid the groundwork for the scene’s vibrant evolution. The legacies of trailblazers such as Niambi, Sinia, and Luna continue to illuminate and inspire, each contributing uniquely to ballroom’s enduring narrative in New York City and beyond.

Niambi Prodigy’s effortless transitions and Sinia B. Alaia’s graceful catwalk are etched in the annals of inspiration, urging generations to boldly embrace their true selves. Pepper Labeija, Octavia St. Laurent, and Dorian Corey, immortalized in the landmark documentary “Paris is Burning,” radiate wisdom and resilience that transcend the runway. Luna Luis Ortiz, a stalwart in art and activism, has paved the way for decades with unwavering passion. These luminaries’ legacies shine brightly through the Haus of Silk, where Robert “Silk” Mason, as Royal Mother of The Kiki Royal Haus of Silk, nurtures a new era of visionaries. From seasoned dancers to avant-garde fashionistas, each member enriches the Haus with a unique voice and unwavering commitment to excellence, captivating global audiences with every breathtaking performance.

In an era where artistic expression intersects with activism, the Haus of Silk continues to redefine performance and fashion boundaries, embodying inclusivity and empowerment that have defined ballroom culture for decades.
