The inaugural BxMA Ball will be held on Thursday, October 03, 2019 at The Bronx Museum. The event, which will be co-chaierd by trustee and artist Angel Otero and fashion designer Jerome LaMaar, will honor artist Mickalene Thomas and Racquel Chevremont who grew up in Bronx. All proceeds from the BxMA Ball will contribute towards the museum’s mission of accessibility, by helping them fund public programs for over 16,000 youths annually, and remain free of admission costs.
“We are thrilled to open our doors to the greater New York community with the first BxMA Ball at The Bronx Museum,” said Bronx Museum Executive Director Deborah Cullen. “We look forward to presenting a unique, Bronx-infused-and-inspired lineup, and to honor the luminary couple, Mickalene Thomas and Racquel Chevremont.” This is the museum’s first fundraising event in 10 years, a symbol of its new leadership under Cullen.
Dinner will be curated by Bronx-based collective Ghetto Gastro, who will provide a three-course meal from their favorite local restaurants, and cocktails will be provided by Wandering Barman. In addition to the flavorful evening, guests will also be treated to a performance by musician and activist TK Wonder.
Following dinner, guests will head downstairs to the afterparty, adorned with the work of the Venus X. Attendees will be treated to a night of music, dancing, and drinking, featuring DJ sets by Venus X, Stefan Ruiz and José Parlá, a pop-up Bronx Brewery Beer Garden, cocktails by Casa Noble, and dancing by B-Girl Rokafella and the Full Circle Souljahs.
Guests will also have access to the museum’s fall exhibitions, including subway documentary photo series Henry Chalfant: Art Vs. Transit, 1977-1987, and The Life and Times of Alvin Baltro, which explored New York’s gay underground of the 1970s.
