Everfine/Atlantic recording group O.A.R. teamed up with the Children’s Scholarship Fund (CSF) for an essay contest in New York City schools, answering the question: Why does your teacher deserve to win a “Best Teacher Award”?

Out of thousands of essays three students have been chosen to be awarded $5,000 by the band. Two of the band members of O.A.R. will be surprising these students with the checks on Friday.

Students in the 20 participating schools in Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island, wrote 500 words or less about why they feel their teacher deserved to win the “Best Teacher Award.” A total of $15,000 will be awarded in the contest, $5,000 to one student in each age group for Kindergarten-2nd grade, 3rd grade-5th grade, and 6th grade-8th grade. Members of O.A.R. will personally present the checks to the students who win as well as meet with the teacher who will be featured on their charity, Heard The World, website.
