The Bronx Tourism Council (BTC) has announced the launch of the new weekly podcast covering Bronx history… Bronx people… Bronx stories.

Go Bronx Podcast, a 15 to 30 minute show is hosted by Olga Luz Tirado, executive director of BTC and co-hosted by Bronx-born historian Angel Hernández. Together they will cover a wide range of historic topics and conduct interviews with Bronx cultural leaders and notables.

The first four episodes will include: the history of Swedish-born (and the borough’s namesake) Jonas Bronck; founding father and author of the preamble to the U.S. Constitution Gouverneur Morris; early 20th century mobster Dutch Schultz; and the inventor of “detective fiction” Edgar Allan Poe. Subsequent episodes will include interviews with other historians, experts, and everyday people.

Go Bronx Podcast will be available on multiple platforms such as Podbean, Stitcher, and Spotify and will air every Wednesday beginning August 26 and is also expected to air on iTunes Podcasts soon.

“As someone who is a student of history, this is a modernly unique way to learn fun historical facts about our great borough,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. “I want to thank Olga Luz Tirado and Angel Hernández for their hard work in putting together the ‘Go Bronx Podcast,’ as well as Empire BlueCross BlueShield for supporting this project, a great platform for all of us to learn more about what makes the Bronx so historically special.”

“In an era where taking in-person tours is not recommended, I am excited to be able to provide an innovative audio experience for people interested in learning more about this great borough. Each episode will include compelling content in an entertaining format,” says Tirado.

“We are on a mission to materially and measurably improve the health of every New Yorker,” said Alan Murray, president & CEO of Empire BlueCross BlueShield. “It is a priority for us to support our neighbors in The Bronx, and we are proud to support the community to share the stories that make up the rich history in the Bronx.”

More information on upcoming episodes can be found on GoBronxPod.com or @GoBxPod on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

The podcast is made possible by Empire BlueCross BlueShield with promotional support provided by NYC & Company Foundation.
