Teenager, 17, Arrested For The Murder Of Michael Smalls, 31

On Thursday, January 23, 2020, at approximately 0127 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a male shot in the vicinity of W. 51 Street and 10 Avenue, within the confines of the Midtown North Precinct in Manhattan.

Upon arrival, officers observed a 31-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the upper torso, inside a black SUV, in the vicinity of W. 50 Street and 11 Avenue.

EMS responded to the location and transported the victim to Mount Sinai West Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Preliminary investigation determined the victim was involved in a dispute with an unidentified individual(s) at the original incident location and attempted to flee the location in the vehicle upon being shot.

Following proper family notification, the deceased is identified as follows.

Bronx, NY 10456

Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the following 17-year-old male individual has been arrested and charged on January 23, 2020:

The name of the suspect has not been released to the public as he is a minor.

Charges:

  • murder;
  • criminal possession firearm.

The investigation remains ongoing.

All charges are merely accusations and all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
