Sky Zone Bronx welcomed New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, New York Governor Kathy Hochul and local leaders on Monday, October 19, 2026, for an announcement marking the next phase of New York City’s free 2-K program, which will expand access to early childhood education for approximately 12,000 children citywide.

The event brought together government officials, families and childcare providers at Sky Zone Bronx, located at 444 E. 189th St., on the second floor. The gathering celebrated the expansion of the early childhood education program and its goal of making free 2-K opportunities available to more New York City families.

The announcement was attended by several prominent city and state officials, including Mayor Mamdani and Governor Hochul. Also present were New York City Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels, City Comptroller Mark Levine, New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin, Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson and New York City Public Advocate Jumaane D. Williams.

During the event, Comptroller Levine commented on the unusual setting for a government press conference, remarking, “This is the coolest place I have ever done a press conference.”

The event took place at Sky Zone Bronx, which opened in January 2026 as New York City’s first Sky Zone location. The indoor recreation venue features freestyle jump zones, dodgeball, basketball and dedicated spaces for younger children. According to the company, the facility offers an environment designed to help children develop strength and confidence through movement and play.

Palladium Equity Partners was also represented at the event by Justin Green, a partner; Marcos Rodriguez, founder and CEO; and Daniel Ilundain, president.

The gathering highlighted the planned expansion of New York City’s free 2-K program, which is intended to increase access to early childhood education for children who are 2 years old. The announcement identified approximately 12,000 children citywide as the number the expanded program will serve.

The event also brought together representatives from the public and private sectors at a Bronx venue focused on recreation and family activities. Sky Zone Bronx hosted the announcement as city and state leaders outlined the next phase of the early childhood education initiative.
