Ryan and Sara Hall to fill 100 backpacks for Bronx xchoolchildren – the day after the ING NYC Marathon.

WHAT
As part of Ryan Hall’s ongoing work to help children living in poverty – in the U.S. and around the world – he and his wife, Sara, will be assembling backpacks filled with school supplies at the World Vision Storehouse in the South Bronx on Monday, November 2, 2009.

WHERE
World Vision Storehouse
885 East 138th St.
Bronx, NY 10454

WHEN
Monday, November 2nd
2:30 pm – 4:00 pm

WHY
The South Bronx is the poorest congressional district in the U.S. and these backpacks are more critically needed due to the impact of the recession on local families. The Halls feel compelled to give back to New York City in a meaningful way, and have chosen to help equip schoolchildren to achieve their potential.

BACKGROUND

Ryan Hall School Supplies Drive – through November

In addition to the backpack event, Ryan Hall is partnering with the World Vision Storehouse to collect school supplies through the month of November.  Participating stores include: Urban Athletics, Super Runners Shop, New York Running Co., Bronxville Running Co., Princeton Running Co., Ridgewood Running Co., Morristown Running Co., Westfield Running Co., and Sneaker Factory.

The Steps Foundation and Team World Vision

Ryan Hall is a spokesperson for Team World Vision, a national program that empowers people to run or walk races while raising funds and awareness for impoverished communities in Africa. Ryan and Sara traveled with Team World Vision to Zambia to see the impact of funds raised at the 2008 Chicago Marathon by nearly 1,000 Team World Vision runners. Ryan Hall will be donating 100% of his winning from the NYC Marathon to the new foundation that he and Sara founded, The Hall Steps Foundation, through which they support World Vision water projects in Africa.
