On Tuesday, August 13, 2019, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. attended the ribbon cutting for new ballfields and a track at Parque de los Niños.
This $3.4 million reconstruction of the softball fields and running track was funded with $2,000,000 from the Borough President, $800,000 from the City Council, and $672,000 from the Mayor’s office. The improved facility features a new synthetic turf mini soccer field and an all-weather running track.
The project is part of an overall plan for the park funded by the Borough President and the Mayor’s Office, which also included a revamp of the playground and seating area. The upgraded playground reopened in July 2017.
“The new athletic fields in this park will keep the Soundview community healthy by providing local families with a safe place to be active and spend time outdoors. Parque de los Niños is now a place which can be enjoyed by community members of all ages for generations to come. I thank the Department of Parks & Recreation for their partnership on this wonderful project,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.
