The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) announced on Thursday that they will provide a free college planning seminar – presented via the Society’s Get Money Smart campaign – on Jan. 21, for the students and parents of The Eagle Academy for Young Men in New York City.

NYSSCPA’s Queens/Brooklyn Chapter member, Rumbi Petrozzello, principal from Rock Forensics, will lead the session – held 10-10:30 a.m. – and will look to provide college planning tips and info on financial resources relating to FAFSA, college tax credits, and the 529 college savings plan.

“This is going to be the second financial literacy event that we are holding at The Eagle Academy and the focus on planning to make college affordable is a pertinent and important one,” stated Petrozzello. “Part of the process of financial literacy understands the various tools available to save money towards a college education. We also seek to emphasize financial literacy from a young age and aim to speak to both the parents and students in attendance about how easy and important it can be to take steps to make college more affordable.”

The Society’s “Get Money Smart” campaign is also home to videos, resources, and downloadable financial planning materials for the public on their site here.
