This is a public service announcement about an upcoming meeting to discuss the Odor Monitoring System (OMS) that the New York Organic Fertilizer Company (NYOF Co.) will put in place at the beginning of May, 2010. The purpose of the meeting is to inform the public of the OMS, explain how it will operate and answer related questions.
NYOF Co. is establishing an OMS in order to investigate complaints of odors believed to be related to the NYOF Co. facility. The OMS will be operated by an independent firm, TRC, under the direction of the NYSDEC approved Odor Response Monitor (ORM), Steven Meersma, P.E. TRC and Mr. Meersma have conducted numerous community odor monitoring programs.
The OMS will investigate public odor complaints in the Hunts Point area of the Bronx, as far away as one mile from the NYOF Co. plant at 1108 Oak Point Avenue. The OMS will employ specially screened and trained odor investigators.
The OMS will begin on May 6, 2010. Anyone who detects an odor that they believe originates from the NYOF Co. facility could call toll-free 1-800-679-OMS-6 (6676) to file a complaint.
