Due to the chance of frozen precipitation in the weather forecast, the New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) has issued a Winter Operations Advisory for Monday, February 15, 2021, starting at 12:01 a.m. and continuing through Tuesday morning.

Freezing rain may begin overnight Sunday into Monday morning, and the Department will pre-treat some roadways with salt and brine beginning Sunday evening. Salt spreaders are ready to respond, if needed. Freezing rain can create dangerous roadway conditions. New Yorkers should avoid any unnecessary roadway travel and exercise care when traveling.

The Department is coordinating with other City agencies on snow clearing protocol in accordance with each agency’s written snow plan. All relevant city agencies have been notified and the Department will continue to monitor forecasts as the snow event approaches.

New Yorkers are encouraged to sign up for Notify NYC, the City’s free emergency communications program, for the latest information and updates on this storm and emergency events in NYC. To sign up for Notify NYC, download the free mobile application, visit NYC.gov/NotifyNYC, call 311, or follow @NotifyNYC on Twitter. All winter weather information and information about the City’s response to the storm can be found by visiting the City’s Severe Weather website at here or by calling 311.

Trash and Recycling Collection

DSNY continues trash and recycling collection services, including on Presidents’ Day. The Sanitation Workers who collect trash and recycling are the same Sanitation Workers who plow and salt the streets. Residents should put out their material for collection the night before their scheduled collection day, but collection delays should be expected. DSNY’s essential Sanitation Workers have been working 12-hour shifts since February 01, 2021 in response to a series of snowstorms and winter weather threats. We thank residents for their patience as we work to provide these services and keep our streets safe for essential travel.
