I live and work here in New York City. There are many things up in the air here, but our democracy should never be one of them.

Right now the Senate is negotiating its CoViD-19 stimulus bill. The Republican version has no funds at all for safe elections. The virus has dramatically increased the cost of voting, just for polling site sanitation alone, among many other expenses.

Every state, county, and city across the nation needs funds for early and mail-in (also known as absentee) voting, to ensure that none of us has to choose between our health and our democratic participation.

The House passed its version of the CoViD-19 stimulus bill, the HEROES Act, with $3.6 billion in safe election funding, but the Senate Republicans have so far refused to include any at all.

Our democracy is at stake during this pandemic. The Senate must pass a bill that includes this funding.
