Concerned Bronx residents and community leaders are coming together to oppose the construction of a new migrant shelter in the Bronx. A demonstration will take place on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., outside the office of Council Member Diana Ayala, located at 254 E. 138th Street, Bronx, NY 10451.
The proposed shelter has sparked widespread concern among Bronx residents, who fear the strain it will place on already limited resources such as housing, public safety, and social services. The rally, organized by the NYYRC Bronx Caucus and supported by the Bronx is MAGA Coalition, seeks to bring attention to the community’s opposition and urge city officials to reconsider.
“Bronx residents are struggling with rising rents, overcrowded schools, and increasing crime,” said Christopher Reid, Chairman of the NYYRC Bronx Caucus. “Adding a shelter in our community without addressing these challenges is reckless and unfair to the hardworking families of the Bronx.”
The demonstration will feature speeches by local leaders, activists, and community members who are advocating for transparency and accountability in decision-making processes that impact the Bronx. Organizers invite all concerned residents to join the protest and stand united in their opposition to the shelter.
