After manufacturing two pieces of sculpture art for renowned Manhattan artist William Anastasi in the Summer of 2012, a young New Yorker has spent the past year conceiving his own large scale art project – one that will represent the identity of New Yorkers.
Marshall Roshto aims to create 500 blown-up puzzle pieces that will all connect to form the shape of Manhattan. He is utilizing a Kickstarter campaign to offer everyday New Yorkers a chance to invest in their own piece of modern art. The artwork itself will be an artistic rendering of the roadmap of the city and will be a glossy laminate that is overlaid on top of the pieces. In utilizing the shape of Manhattan and the roadmap artwork, each Kickstarter backer will essentially “own” a section of the city.
In addition to the 500 large-scale pieces, Marshall also plans to create miniature keychain versions of certain pieces, allowing people who do not wish to invest in full sized artwork the opportunity to take part in the project.
