Dear Bronx Artists,
As we continue to navigate our creative journeys in an ever-changing world, it is important to pause and take care of ourselves and each other. Amid deadlines, projects, and personal responsibilities, self-care and collective care often take a backseat. We encourage you to take a moment to breathe, reflect, and nurture your well-being.
At BCA, we’ve designed our current Artist Sustainability Workshops Series (ASWS), Work, Create, and Play: Holistic Practices for Creatives, to provide tools for integrating mindful work habits, self-care, and financial strategies into your artistic life. Last week, artists got a jump start on navigating tax season. In the next workshops, artists will learn how to diversify income streams while establishing harmony between your work and creative lives.
Additionally, we are pleased to present the next Bronx Memoir Project (BMP) Workshop Series, Place and Time, which invites writers to reflect on how the places in your lives have shaped your stories. This exploration of space and self can be a powerful act of self-care—allowing you to reflect and connect more deeply with the environments that have influenced your journey.
Lastly, we know this time of year can feel overwhelming, but we hope you will take advantage of the active open calls and grants currently available (see the full list below). With recent deadline extensions, there’s more time to submit your work and apply for the funding or opportunity that can help support your practice.
Take care of yourselves. We hope you will join us in creating a sustainable artistic life—where your creativity, well-being, and success all have room to grow.
In community and creativity,
The BCA Team
About Bronx Council On The Arts
Founded by visionary community leaders in 1962, the Bronx Council on the Arts (BCA) is dedicated to advancing cultural equity in Bronx. From creative placemaking and arts advocacy to the provision of services for artists and arts organizations, as well as programming for children and seniors, BCA was the first organization in Bronx to focus equally on supporting local artists, serving the community, and catalyzing relationships between the two.
Since its founding, BCA has focused on the work of underrepresented groups, especially artists of color, women, and members of the LGBTQ community. We provide direct services to over 1,000 artists and 250 community-based arts groups each year, and thanks to our granting programs, we are able to touch the lives of over thousands of audience members.
