Governor David A. Paterson announced today that a Proclamation has been issued calling for two Special Elections in the Bronx to be held Tuesday, June 2, 2009.
The elections will fill the vacancies in the 77th and 85th New York State Assembly Districts following last week’s election of Ruben Diaz, Jr. to Bronx Borough President and the departure of Aurelia Greene, who agreed to serve as Deputy Borough President. “These Special Elections will ensure that our Bronx residents have the representation they need in the Assembly,” Governor Paterson said.
“I encourage all eligible voters come out to the polls on June 2 and select their future leaders.” Governor Paterson issued the Special Election Proclamation on May 1, 2009, pursuant to Section 42 of the Public Officers Law. The Proclamation orders and proclaims that an election for Members of Assembly for the two unexpired terms, be held in the 77th and 85th Assembly Districts and shall be conducted in the manner prescribed by law for elections in New York State.
