On Tuesday, September 21, 2021, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. joined Governor Kathy Hochul at the Hurricane Maria Memorial in New York City to remember the devastating impact of the storm four years later.

“In the immediate aftermath of the storm, we saw the spirit of the Bronx on full display, people from all corners of the borough, city and state wanted to help, no matter how much or little they could give. Now four years later, we still are still seeing regular power outages, as well as deteriorating infrastructure, and the many challenges the island has faced as a result of the CoViD-19 pandemic. As we have shown over the last four years since the natural disaster struck the island of Puerto Rico, the more than three million American citizens living there are strong, proud, resilient, and Puerto Rico will overcome these challenges,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr.
