Bronx President Ruben Diaz Jr. hosted his annual “Back to School” Literacy & Health Fair at the Pablo Casals Middle School 181 on the Co-op City Education Campus.
The event was co-sponsored by Montefiore Hospital, 92.3 AMP Radio and Healthfirst, with additional school supplies and backpacks donated by MetroPCS and FreshDirect. The event was also emceed by 92.3 AMP Radio personality and host Shoboy, and featured music, games and giveaways, as well as performances from the Ed Sullivan Fellows Program at New York University, Mind Builders and Rob and EC Salsero.
Mayor Bill de Blasio also attended the event. During the visit, he and Diaz discussed plans for the forthcoming renovation of the historic Orchard Beach Pavilion. Diaz, de Blasio, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie have combined to provide $50 million in capital funding toward renovations.
