Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie is headed back to campus this fall.
Heastie, a Bronx Democrat, announced Friday that he will teach classes part-time at Monroe College’s Bronx Campus, instructing an introductory course in personal finance management.
“Higher education has always been a priority to me as I recognize the countless doors it has opened for me, and I want to ensure others have that same opportunity,” Heastie said.
Heastie, one of the state’s most powerful elected officials, will be paid $5,200 for his efforts at the college, which have been approved by the Legislative Ethics Committee, the speaker’s press office reported.
Dr. Karenann Carty, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Monroe College, said, “We’re delighted to welcome Speaker Heastie back to campus this fall. He was a valued member of our adjunct faculty for seven years prior to becoming Speaker in February 2015. He will be teaching our incoming freshmen, who will surely benefit from his instruction.”
