A large new affordable housing building, known as Elton Crossing in the Melrose section of Bronx, has just launched the lottery on its 198 apartments.
Developed by affordable housing developer Phipps Houses (in partnership with Briarwood Organization and CPC Resources), the rental building is comprised of a mix of studios, one, two, and three-bedrooms, all offered in different income brackets.
The cheapest apartments here start at $396/month, and are available to people making between $15,532 and $22,920 annually. On the flip side, the most expensive units here are a set of three-bedrooms that are renting for $1,740/month for families making between $62,229 and $110,700 annually. In terms of income brackets, they include 30, 40, 50, 60, and 100 percent of area median income.
Residents within Bronx Community Board 3 will get preference on half of the apartments at 889 Elton Avenue, and some more have been set aside for people with disabilities.
The project, known as Elton Crossing and designed by Magnusson Architecture and Planning, is nearing completion, and some of the amenities residents here can look forward to include the laundry room and fitness center in the building, a landscaped seating area, and an onsite resident gardening program.
