On Friday, November 05, 2021, at approximately 1718 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a residential fire inside of 303 E. 135th Street, within the confines of the 40th Precinct / PSA 7 in the Bronx.
FDNY personnel responded to the scene and were able to extinguish the fire.
A preliminary investigation determined that there was a trash compactor fire at the location, causing heavy smoke.
A 32-year-old male and a 6-year-old male were discovered unconscious in a hallway at the location, suffering from smoke inhalation.
EMS responded to the scene and removed the 32-year-old male to NYC Health + Hospitals / Harlem in critical condition, who was later transferred to NYC Health + Hospitals / Lincoln, where his condition remains critical.
The 6-year-old male was also removed to NYC Health + Hospitals / Harlem and was pronounced deceased.
The exact cause of the fire is being investigated by the NYC Fire Marshal.
FDNY was able to extinguish the fire.
Following proper family notification, the deceased has been identified as indicated.

There have been no arrests made and the investigation remains ongoing.
