On Saturday, April 27, 2019, at approximately 2020 hours, at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Brook Avenue, within the confines of the 42 Precinct in Bronx, a 2-year-old female and a 6-year-old male had their throats slashed by their mother.
The children were found by passerbys on the street who then flagged down police. The on-scene officers removed the aided children to NYC Health and Hospitals / Lincoln, via their RMP.
The children’s mother walked into the 42 Precinct stationhouse shortly thereafter the incident. She was covered in blood and made incriminating statements to officers; a razor was recovered from her person. The children were in serious condition and later transferred to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, where the 6-year-old Tyzavier Zaire Martin succumbed to his injuries on Friday, June 14, 2019.
Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the following 24-year-old female individual was arrested and charged on Sunday, April 28, 2019, at 0005 hours, within the confines of the 42 Precinct in Bronx.

Charges:
- assault (12 counts);
- abandonment of a child (2 counts);
- acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17 years old (2 counts);
- criminal possession of a weapon (2 counts).
According to the NYPD, Tyzavier’s death was ruled homicide in a statement this past Wednesday, November 27, 2019.
The investigation remains ongoing.
All charges are merely accusations and all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
