A former Bronx parking facility is on its way to becoming an affordable housing complex with more than 400 units.
The Ader Group, a Monsey-based real estate investment firm based, filed plans through an authorized signatory on Wednesday for a 14-story building at 1125 Whitlock Avenue that will contain 243 units and span roughly 211,000 square feet. The residential units will take up about 200,000 square feet, while the remaining space will be used for a community facility.
This is the first of two buildings that the Ader Group is planning for their Whitlock Avenue affordable housing complex, which will ultimately span 473,000 square feet with 474 residential units, 14,937 square feet of retail and a 69-space parking garage. The first building should be finished by 2019, while the second should be done by 2021. South Bronx will also see a Burlington Coat Factory and Marshalls open in the Hub at the beginning of next year, and construction should begin on a 115-unit affordable and supportive housing building in Claremont Village at the end of the year.
