Prep 4 Success under the auspice of Neighborhood Initiatives Development Corp. [NIDC] announces a grand restoration of the Lind-Ric Mural on Friday September 2nd at 4:00 p.m. The mural is located on Olinville Avenue between Mace and Waring Avenues in Bronx.

Every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from August 8 until September 2, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., teens from the Prep for Success program worked to restore the 490 feet long and 15 feet high mural before the school year begins. The youth group led by Brittney Carr, Roshae Ferguson, and Rayvon Parsons, members of the Prep For Success program, have devoted their summer recreating the visions of nature and unity that has made the mural a great source of community pride.  Maryum Delves-Opa, Director of Prep for Success was proud to report, “Area residents are pleased with and have commented admiringly about the artistry of the mural and the efforts of the kid’s dedication to this project”.

Last year the youth installed two personalized dog signs and a doggy bag dispenser. When they were stolen and a harsh winter took its toll on the mural, causing the colors to fade and much of the wall’s surface to be chipped away they were not discouraged. These youth volunteered to give it a much needed face-lift.

With the help of about 15 hardworking youngsters from ages 10 to 16, from the Lions of Judah Youth Ministry, the mural will be completed on Friday August 31.  “We are impressed. These kids are serious about finishing what they started especially when many kids rather sleep or stay in the house,” one resident added. The community show their support and respect by keeping the mural graffiti-free for the last 12 months in over 20 years, an extremely rare accomplishment.
