Woman Struck, Killed By Car In Bronx

A 32-year-old woman has been struck and killed by a car while crossing a Bronx street.

Police say officers responded to a report of a woman struck at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the Van Nest section of Bronx.

They say emergency workers took the woman to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine where she was declared dead.

Officials say 28-year-old Augustus Jenkins hit 32-year-old Nydja Herring as she was crossing East Tremont Avenue in Parkchhester shortly before 5:30 p.m.

Police say the man has been taken into custody and was charged with aggravated drunk driving and driving without a license.
