Norwalk Police found two wallets belonging to Darien residents during a routine traffic stop on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 4 a.m. on a Bronx trio.
Darien Police said Norwalk stopped a U-Haul truck that operating without headlights and later found items that were determined to have been stolen from car burglaries in Darien. Five males were in the car, including two minors.
Norwalk alerted Darien who then arrested Jason Rivera, 24, Jonathan Mendez, 23, and Eric Garcia, 19, all of 437 Morris Park Avenue, Bronx, NY. A 14 and a 15-year-old were also taken into custody. All five males reside at the same address, according to police. This address corresponds to the New Hope Shelter in South Bronx that houses homeless families.
Police said they recovered a wallet that had been taken from an unlocked Ford Explorer parked at Beach Drive home. They also found a wallet taken from an unlocked Ford F-150 that was parked at a Raymond Street home.
The men are charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of sixth-degree larceny, one count conspiracy to burglary, six counts of credit card theft and two counts of risk of injury to a minor. The minors got the same charges save the risk of injury charge.
Rivera was held on a $25,000 bond and Mendez and Garcia were held on $10,000 bonds each. They have court on Friday, April 4, 2014.
