The Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, which is in the final stages of a $5 billion upgrade, provides a unique setting for New Yorkers seeking an alternative destination for a Valentine’s Day outing.

Plant Superintendent Jim Pynn provides an engaging overview of the wastewater treatment process, including details about how the Newtown Creek Plant will soon be the first in the nation to purify biogas into enough natural gas to heat nearly 5,200 New York City homes and reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions by more than 90,000 metric tons – the equivalent of removing nearly 19,000 cars from the road.

Space is limited and those who wish to take part in the tours must register here. The tours will begin at the Visitors Center, which is located at 329 Greenpoint Avenue, Brooklyn, NY and will include a trip to the observation deck which is located atop the famous digester eggs.

The time slots are 9:30 a.m.; 11:00 a.m.; and 1:00 p.m.
