Update On The NYPD Response To The Coronavirus Outbreak

Citywide Patrols

Officers continue to visit restaurants, bars, supermarkets, salons and public spaces to remind individuals of the ban on congregating in public spaces and to practice social distancing.

Between 08:00 am Saturday, March 28, 2020 and 08:00 a.m,. Sunday, March 29, 2020:

  • NYPD officers visited 2,682 supermarkets of which 1,415 were closed.
  • NYPD officers visited 7,667 bars and restaurants of which 5,867 were closed. 
  • NYPD officers visited 1,482 public places of which 272 were closed. 
  • NYPD officers visited 3,608 personal care facilities of which 3,606 were closed. 

NYPD Officers on Sick Report

On Sunday, March 29, 2020, 4,651 uniformed members of the NYPD were on sick report which accounts for 12.8% of the Department’s uniformed workforce. Currently 730 uniformed members and 88 civilian members tested positive for the Coronavirus. Note Police Commissioner Shea at the Mayor’s Press Conference said that he anticipates that by tomorrow morning close to 900 members will test positive for Coronavirus.
