Deaths in the Family

It is with sadness that the New York City Police Department announces the deaths of three members of our family.

Police Communications Technician Denise Prince, assigned to the Communications Section, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2020, from complications related to the coronavirus.

Police Communications Technician Prince became a member of the NYPD on July 30, 1999.

Detective Robert Cardona, assigned to the 13th Precinct Detective Squad, passed away today, Wednesday April 15, 2020, from complications related to the coronavirus.

Detective Cardona became a member of the NYPD on July 02, 2001.

Traffic Enforcement Agent Carol Ryer, assigned to Bronx Traffic Enforcement, passed away today, Wednesday, April 15, 2020, from complications related to the coronavirus.

Traffic Enforcement Agent Ryer became a member of the NYPD on November 09, 1992.

Citywide Patrols

Officers continue to visit restaurants, bars, supermarkets, salons and public spaces to remind individuals of the ban on congregating in public spaces and to practice social distancing.

Between 08:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 14, 2020 and 08:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 15, 2020:

  • NYPD officers visited 2,540 supermarkets and pharmacies of which 1,547 were closed.
  • NYPD officers visited 6,397 bars and restaurants of which 5,298 were closed. 
  • NYPD officers visited 1,215 public places of which 880 were closed. 
  • NYPD officers visited 2,720 personal care facilities of which 2,712 were closed. 

There were no arrests or summonses issued in regard to these visits.

NYPD Officers on Sick Report

On Wednesday, April 15, 2020, 6,274 uniformed members of the NYPD were on sick report which accounts for 17.30% of the Department’s uniformed workforce. That is down from a high of 19.80%. Currently, 2,161 uniformed members and 588 civilian members are diagnosed with coronavirus. To date, 4,080 members of the NYPD have tested positive for coronavirus. As of today, Wednesday, April 15, 2020, 1,306 members of the NYPD have returned to work full duty after recovering from a positive test for the coronavirus.
