Deaths in the Family
It is with sadness that the New York City Police Department announces the deaths of two members of our family.
Traffic Enforcement Agent Richard Austin, assigned to the Transportation Bureau – North Intersection Control, passed away today, Thursday, April 09, 2020, from complications related to the coronavirus.
Traffic Enforcement Agent Austin became a member of the NYPD on September 03, 1985.
Police Officer Eric Murray, assigned to Patrol in the 25th Precinct, passed away today, Thursday April 09, 2020, from complications related to the coronavirus.
Police Officer Murray became a member of the NYPD on January 31, 2006.
Citywide Patrols
Officers continue to visit restaurants, bars, supermarkets, salons and public spaces to remind individuals of the ban on congregating in public spaces and to practice social distancing: Between 08:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 8, 2020 and 08:00 a.m., Thursday, April 09, 2020:
- NYPD officers visited 2,358 supermarkets of which 1,262 were closed.
- NYPD officers visited 6,654 bars and restaurants of which 5,378 were closed.
- NYPD officers visited 1,143 public places of which 747 were closed.
- NYPD officers visited 3,076 personal care facilities of which 3,076 were closed.
There were no arrests or summonses issued in regard to these visits.
NYPD Officers on Sick Report
On Thursday, April 09, 2020, 7,155 uniformed members of the NYPD were on sick report which accounts for 19.80% of the Department’s uniformed workforce. Currently, 2,204 uniformed members and 408 civilian members tested positive for the coronavirus.
