A Message to the NYPD from His Eminence, Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York
“They are telling all of us to stay put, to stay in, to stay secluded, but not you men and women. You are out there, you have to be with the folks, you have to protect us, you are walking the beat, you are driving the streets, and you are right in the thick of things as usual. When we see you, we know we are a little safer, we know we have a friend out there, we know somebody who puts our lives even before their own. So believe me when I say I am grateful to you. The other day we had a teleconference call with religious leaders in the city and Commissioner Shea came on and thanked us, and I would like to return that sentiment to you Commissioner and to all of the men and women who serve so selflessly in the New York City Police Department. We are grateful to you, you are a great example for us, and I love you more than ever. I respect you, I appreciate you, and I am going to stay close to you. God Bless.”
Death in the Family
It is with sadness that the New York City Police Department announces the death of a member of our family. School Safety Agent Roniece Watson, assigned to the School Safety Division, died on Monday, March 30, 2020, of complications from Coronavirus. School Safety Agent Watson became a member of the NYPD on September 08, 2003.
Citywide Patrols
Officers continue to visit restaurants, bars, supermarkets, salons and public spaces to remind individuals of the ban on congregating in public spaces and to practice social distancing.
Between 08:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 01, 2020 and 08:00 a.m., Thursday, April 02, 2020:
- NYPD officers visited 2,713 supermarkets of which 1,210 were closed.
- NYPD officers visited 6,260 bars and restaurants of which 4,483 were closed.
- NYPD officers visited 1,368 public places of which 793 were closed.
- NYPD officers visited 3 408 personal care facilities of which 3,408 were closed.
* There were no arrests or summonses issued in regard to these visits.
NYPD Officers on Sick Report
On Thursday, April 02, 2020, 6,498 uniformed members of the NYPD were on sick report which accounts for 18% of the Department’s uniformed workforce. Currently, 1,354 uniformed members and 169 civilian members tested positive for the Coronavirus.
