Unique People Services Hosts Art Exhibit

Unique People Services (UPS) Day Hab Program held an Art Show at their 112-21 Farmers Boulevard location, on Wednesday, May 15, 2019.

The Art show was a culmination of the work of program individuals with intellectual and development disabilities. Through a partnership with Arts Horizon and funding from NYC Council Member Robert Holden, the unique art show featured pieces of art in all sizes and mediums created by program participants.

Kiran Rajagopalan, Arts Horizons, Program Coordinator, Natalie Alleyne, Teaching Artist, Shaleen McKenzie, Director of Queens Day Habilitation Program, UPS, Inc., parents and various community stakeholders attended.

A special greeting and certificates of recognition presentation was made by Paul Nichols, Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of NYS Senator Leroy Comrie as appreciation of the artists and in supporting the work of the organization to advance opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Upon presenting the certificates, Mr. Nichols spoke to the importance of the program, he stated, “on behalf of Senator Comrie, it is an honor and privilege to give Unique People Services these certificates of recognition. The love and nurturing that you give to individuals is commendable”.

Unique People Services provides vital resources through a wide range of programs and projects that are effective in supporting the self-sufficiency of individuals with developmental disabilities. “Events such as this Art Show are important,” stated Yvette B. Andre, Executive Director of Unique People Services “We are glad to serve the community with programs that build independence and support individuals to contribute, participate, and become valued community members.”, she concluded.

The UPS Day Habilitation program provides intellectual and developmentally disabled individuals on-site and off-site experiences in the community that are tailored to meet their specific needs.
