Two Bronx men were arrested Tuesday and charged with stealing $6,080 worth of paint, carpeting, and cabinets, Fairfiled, CT police said.
Ismael Rucci, 47, and Miguel Ortiz, 19, both charged with third-degree larceny and held in lieu of $5,000 bonds after police determined they were suspects in a large theft from Home Depot.
According to the police report, witnesses told officers they saw the two men “furiously loading” items into a red van. Police stopped the van at the Sunoco station across the street from Home Depot and saw the carpeting, paint, and cabinets in the car.
The men produced a receipt for $254, but it only covered some of the cans of paint in the car, according to police. A cashier at Home Depot told police he rang up the men’s purchases, but did not ring up the amount of items that were in the back of the van.
Ortiz, who was reportedly driving the van, was also charged with misuse of plates, driving with insurance, driving without a license, and driving an unregistered vehicle, according to the report.
Both men have an extensive criminal history in New York, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said. They are scheduled to appear in court on Augusst 28, 2012.
