A routine traffic stop in the Town of Pawling, NY has led to the arrest of a Bronx man on cocaine possession charges, according to police.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said that deputies stopped a vehicle on Route 22 on Friday, February 28, 2014, at around 9:37 p.m. because its taillights were out. Police said that while interviewing the driver, they detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Deputies said that further investigation revealed that the driver, identified as Ian Santiago of the Bronx, was in possession of both marijuana and cocaine.

Santiago was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

Santiago was released on his own recognizance and is due back in the Town of Pawling Justice Court March 20, 2014.
