A top prosecutor says federal and local agents have broken up a drug distribution ring in the Bronx and Yonkers.
U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara (buh-RAH’-ruh) says 16 members of the alleged ring have been indicted in federal court on charges of conspiring to distribute cocaine.
Bharara says the charges specify drug amounts of five kilograms or more. That means there’s a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison on conviction.
Prosecutors said Thursday the ring was called the “4040 Organization” because it operated out of 4040 Bronx Boulevard in Bronx. They want the building forfeited to the government.
They said the ring distributed cocaine in Bronx, Yonkers and elsewhere.
A federal spokesman said 15 of the suspects were in custody after arrests Wednesday night and Thursday.
